Hi Mesick families, Day 3 of gratitude! Here are a few things you can do at home to incorporate and encourage gratitude. 1. Daily gratitude reflection There are many ways to incorporate gratitude into your daily life. One great way is for everyone to share one thing they are grateful for at the dinner table each night. Everyone gets a chance to reflect upon their day, and find just one thing to be grateful for. This helps children gain a little bit of perspective, and appreciate that while every day may not be good, there is always something good in every day. 2. Help others Encourage your kids to help others in age appropriate ways. Help them to find causes they feel passionate about and are interested in, and allow them to contribute in their own unique way, using their special skills and talents. It could be donating belongings or food to the homeless, volunteering their time at a nursing home, donating their pocket money to a good cause, participating in a fun run to raise money for a particular charity. Whatever it is, giving to others in need will help your child appreciate their own life and how fortunate they are. 3. Say thank you Using manners certainly helps us to express gratitude for others, but I’m not just talking about saying thank you to your brother for passing the milk at breakfast this morning. I’m talking about thanking people for the small things they do for us that make our days brighter. Express appreciation to your neighbor for always bringing your bin in off the curb for you. Let your friend know how much you appreciate her always being there to listen when you need to talk. Thank your mum for the way she always brings you a special home made treat when she comes to visit. Thank your child’s teacher for always showing up to class with a smile, even when she’s been up late marking homework. “Appreciation is a wonderful thing: it makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well.” -Voltaire Have a great day! -Ms. Stevens

Hi Mesick families! Gratitude! What is it? Gratitude is one of many positive emotions. It's about focusing on what's good in our lives and being thankful for the things we have. Gratitude is pausing to notice and appreciate the things that we often take for granted, like having a place to live, friends, family, even computer or phone access. It's taking a moment to reflect on how fortunate we are when something good happens — whether it's a small thing or a big thing. We can use lots of words to describe feelings of gratitude: We might say we feel thankful, lucky, fortunate, humbled, or blessed. **the ‘Thankful Phone’ activity is hard to read. The directions say- “challenge those in your family to share a picture from their phone (that they’ve already taken) that best represents the items on the list. Explain yourself choices!” “We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude.” – Cynthia Ozick -Ms. Stevens

Hi Mesick families! As we wrap up Memorial Day celebrations, this week’s topic of gratitude seems pretty relevant! We’ve touched on this subject before, but it’s so important, it’s worth reviewing again. Gratitude can: -improve physical health -improve sleep -improve psychological health -increase empathy -reduce aggression -enhance self-esteem -improve mental strength -increase social connection And more...! “Gratitude turns what we have into enough.” -unknown Have a wonderful week, -Ms. Stevens
