June 3, 2020
Dear Parents, Students and Community Members,
I hope everyone is healthy and well. I could never have imagined how this school year ended. Believe it or not Wednesday, June 10 is our official last day of school. This will also be our last day of picking up and dropping off items. Please make sure that all items have been returned to the school, textbooks, library books, Chromebooks, and chargers. All Chromebooks will be disabled on June 10, we will need them back in the district so that we are able to get them prepared for next school year. Drop off will be at the same locations, the parking lot in the back of the elementary school, and the first drive (office drive) at the junior/senior high school. Please drop off all items on Wednesday, June 10 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM and from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM. If these times do not work for you please contact your child’s school.
Please be on the lookout for a survey that will be heading your way. We will be sending out a survey regarding our distance learning packets and your experience with distance learning. We would like to hear what went well and what did not go well. Your input is very important to us.
As we still have uncertainty about what school will look like next school year, we are hoping and going forward with the plan that we will have as close to a normal opening as we can. We are also planning alternative plans in case we need to open school differently. We will continue to communicate and follow the guidance or our local health department. The Governor has also created a task force to offer guidance on what school reopening will look like. This task force has subcommittees, one of which is a rural school district subcommittee. We want to make sure that our students and staff will be able to be back in school in the safest way possible.
We also want to be prepared as possible for whatever may come in the fall. The teaching staff is currently taking a professional development course on the essentials of distance learning. This week-long training will help prepare our teachers for the potential of future distance learning. The administration and literacy coach will be working on their PD next week on how to assist teachers in the creation of distance learning materials.
I am sure many of you have heard that there is the potential of quite a large budget cut for the schools. If the district does receive budget cuts we will do everything within our power to try to keep all of our wonderful programming and opportunities for our students. If you have thoughts either way on school funding please feel free to reach out to your legislators.
Blessed to be a Bulldog,
Scott Akom
